Series: Sustainable City Week

Location: Room DLG09, Rhind Building

Our professional beekeeper Luke Dixon will talk about the keeping of bees in towns and cities. He will explain the City University beehive project and talk through the bee season. There will be a chance for questions, and to sign up to join our bee club and help look after the bees.

We'll look at the life cycle of the honey bee, explain how honey is made, examine the importance of pollination and see how man and bee have lived together for thousands of years.

Luke will demonstrate how a smoker works, the various tools used in bee keeping and have some hive parts for you to look at.

And there'll be some protective bee suits to try on.
