Admission Price: Free to attend; please register (places are limited)
Speakers: Helen Arney, Lily Dart
Helen Arney is a science communicator, comedian, physics graduate and 'geek songstress' and is part of the comedy trio Festival of the Spoken Nerd. She also hosts live events and science cabarets in the UK and abroad. Helen is an experienced writer and performer and will provide training on how to take a five minute presentation from conception to delivery; on any topic.
Female staff, academic and professional, from all Schools and Professional Service Units are encouraged to attend and can work on presenting a topic of their choice.
The training will use the concept of 300 Seconds as a presentation guide. 300 Seconds is a series of talks founded in digital community, founded on the belief that we can learn from the brilliance of the many, not just the few. This event aims to give women a means of gaining confidence and experience in speaking in public. Standing up in front of an audience for half an hour can be daunting even to the seasoned pro. But five minutes - just 300 seconds - well, that's not so hard, is it?
By the end of this three hour training session, participants should feel confident to prepare and present a five minute talk on a topic of their choice. Participants will need to nominate ideas for their presentation as part of the registration process.
Places are limited, so if you're interested in attending please register as soon as possible.
