Leonidas Cheliotis is Chancellor's Fellow in Law, appointed at the Associate Professor level, and Co-Director of the Centre for Law and Society. Previously, he was a Lecturer and founding Deputy Director of the Centre for Criminal Justice at the School of Law, Queen Mary, University of London.
Leonidas has received various awards for his research, including, most recently, the 2013 Critical Criminologist of the Year Award by the Division on Critical Criminology of the American Society of Criminology.
Leonidas is an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Criminology. He also sits on the International Associate Editorial Board of Punishment & Society: The International Journal of Penology, as well as on the editorial board of the British Journal of Criminology, amongst other scholarly outlets.
Leonidas' main research interests are:
- the political economy of crime, violence and punitiveness
- street-level' criminal justice policies and practices
- the method and practice of interdisciplinary and international comparative penology
