Corporate Governance and Law: Beyond Economics and Compliance

Conference description

A comprehensive analysis of multifaceted governance problems is an enormous task that requires a concerted effort by academics and practitioners.

This conference is co-organized by the Corporate Governance Special Interest Group of the British Academy of Management, the International Centre for Integrity and Governance of the London Guildhall Faculty of Business and Law, and the Centre for Research in Corporate Governance (CRCG) at Cass Business School, City University London. It represents one of the first attempts to provide a balanced and holistic analysis of corporate governance problems by bringing together and comparing views of various disciplines including economics, law and sociology, as well as the practitioners.

Key research questions to be discussed are:

  • What are the key functions of corporate governance beyond securing shareholder value and regulatory compliance?
  • Where do the pressures to reform governance come from?
  • How do they drive legitimization process, including changes in the firm’s governance systems?
