Lunchtime Concert: Haydn, String Quartet in E flat major

Series: City University London Concert Series

Recently formed as part of City's Chamber Ensembles programme, the City String Quartet decided to begin their foray into chamber music with a work written by 'The Father of the String Quartet' - Franz Joseph Haydn.

This concert will feature arguably one of Haydn's most popular quartets - Op.33, No. 2 - nicknamed The Joke.
It is a piece which showcases Haydn's true mastery of the genre, exhibiting many variances in character - from the somewhat traditional opening movement, the jovial Scherzo, enchanting Largo, through to the joyous playful Finale that is the Presto - Haydn's Joke.

Violin 1: Georgina Lock
Violin 2: Wesley Lau
Viola: Anna Vaughan
Cello: Daisy Heath
