Simulation Driving Health Professional Education and Productivity

Speaker: Professor Peter Brooks AM MD FRACP

Series: Dean's Lecture Series, School of Health Sciences

Peter Brnullooks will outline the major challenges that we face with the increase in demand for health services driven by ageing and chronic disease, an ageing workforce and government fiscal constraint. He will stress the importance of inter professional education for health professionals providing evidence for the role of simulation experiences to assist other modes of education. Simulated learning can speed and improve retention of information and provides learners with a 'safe' environment in which to practice their 'craft'. He will outline the exciting opportunities for technologies - including simulation - to create the 'virtual' health system of the future and emphasise the importance of patient engagement in this. In fact he will show that unless health professionals embrace these new paradigms they will be left behind by patient organisations and individuals who will create their own social/health networks - the real risk being - without US. This is the new FUTURE HEALTH.
