On 20th March 2014 we were delighted to be able to celebrate the enormous contribution made to UK industry by one of City University London's highest profile alumni; Sir Richard (Dick) Olver.
Dick studied for a BSc in Civil Engineering between 1965-1970 graduating with a first class honours degree.
He went on to have an outstanding career that spanned over 30 years with BP, where he served as Deputy Group Chief Executive from 2003 and Chief Executive, Exploration and Production from 1998. He continued his association with BP as Deputy Chairman of TNK-BP from July 2004 until October 2006. In 1994 he joined BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defence contractors and was awarded the prestigious Non-Executive Director (NED) of the Year Award at the 6th annual NED Awards sponsored by The Sunday Times in March 2012.
Dick is a member of Prime Minister David Cameron's Business Advisory Group and also serves as a UK Business Ambassador and as a member of the India/UK CEO Forum. He is on the International Advisory Board for the Atlantic Council and is a member of the Trilateral Commission. Dick is also an adviser to Clayton, Dubilier and Rice as well as to HSBC. He was a Non-Executive Director of Reuters and Thomson Reuters from 1997-2008 and a member of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown's Business Council for Britain from 2009 to 2010.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He holds honorary doctorates in Science from City University London and Cranfield University and he is also a Fellow of the City & Guilds London Institute.
