Technology adoption through human-centred design
Jan Srutek, Senior Interaction Designer, Foolproof
How to achieve wider adoption of a new product or technology? This could be challenging, especially if there exist negative customer attitudes and perceptions that currently act as barriers to adoption.
In this talk, Jan will present a case study of a creative concept that won a design competition organised by Norfolk-based initiative Hethel Innovation and funded by European Union's innovation programme. The competition's aim was to change people's perceptions and remove barriers to embracing electric vehicles and associated technologies.
Jan will describe the human-centred design process used to tackle the brief as well as the winning solution. The team started with quick (guerrilla-style) consumer research leading to insights that helped to crystallise the design problem. They then moved into concept generation, iteration, and refinement of the final solution.
Jan works in London as a Senior Interaction Designer for an leading experience design consultancy Foolproof. Over the last few years, he has researched and designed digital products and services for a number of the world's leading brands including Vodafone, TfL, Channel4, Sega, easyJet, Sony, and HSBC. His mission is to design digital interactions that are useful, usable, and delightful, while being commercially successful.
