In this session, Jonathan will discuss one particular experiential qualitative research method: interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). He will briefly outline the characteristic features of IPA and give some examples of it from his own work.
We will then engage in thinking about doing IPA in practice and hopefully there will be some exercises for attendees to take part in.

Professor Jonathan A Smith
Jonathan A Smith is Professor of Psychology at Birkbeck University of London. He has developed interpretative phenomenological analysis and applied it to a wide range of topics in health and social psychology. Much of his recent research has been in psychosocial aspects of the new genetics.
