Series: Green City Week

A market showcasing fresh, healthy and sustainable food from local farmers and producers is one of many events taking place at City University London in Islington as part of its annual Green City Week. This aims to highlight the many benefits of a sustainable working and living environment and runs from 24 - 28 October 2011.

The Farmers' Market will be open to local residents from 11:00 - 15:00 on Wednesday 26 October, with free admission via City's Spencer Street entrance. Cheese, organic meats, eggs, cakes, pastries, sausages, plants and much more will be on offer, with some grown and made by City staff and students as part of the University's Food Co-Op.

City is also hosting environmentally-focused discussions and master classes throughout the week, which are open to the Islington community. These include: a forum on protecting and sustaining our marine environment; a debate on how we can cope with the increasing number of cyclists on London's roads; and a conference offering advice to local businesses on managing their facilities sustainably.

City's Environmental Officer, Dawn White, says: "There are many great green initiatives happening at the University, which we've been showcasing for the last three years through Green City Week. We're looking forward to opening our doors, meeting our neighbours and encouraging them to be a little more environmentally conscious too."
