This event offers an opportunity to explore what is going on in Syria and discuss the regional dimensions and implications.

Sami Zubaida is Professor of Politics and Sociology at Birkbeck College University of London and a specialist in the religion, culture and politics of the Middle East. He is author of Beyond Islam: A new understanding of the Middle East; Law and Power in the Islamic World and Islam, the People and the State.

Mina Toksoz is Head of Country Risk at Standard Bank, responsible for the analysis of Emerging markets outside of Sub-Saharan Africa. She has been covering the Middle East since the 1980s when she worked as Middle East editor at The Economist magazine's Economics Intelligence Unit.
