The Alumni Network hosts a range of events and activities throughout the year which enable the University to maintain
contact with former City students. In 2010, we are pleased to announce that we will be doing even more to engage with
our music alumni, providing you with opportunities to revisit City, reunite with old friends and network with staff
and other music graduates.
As part of this new engagement programme, this special event will be an opportunity for you to look around our new performance area, part of a £12m state-of-the-art refurbishment of the famous College Building.
Staff and students can now enjoy access to television, radio and music recording studios but one of the most eye-catching enhancements is the conversion of the disused Grade II listed swimming pool area into a stylish new resource centre. Many original features have been retained, including the changing cubicles, which are now self-contained study spaces.
We will also be launching a mentoring scheme at the event that will match music alumni to current music students. The scheme aims to enable mentors to help mentees develop their awareness of the music sector, challenge them to think about the realities of the workplace and give them the opportunity to receive support from someone already in the field.
Performances will be provided by by Ben Schoeman, Clare Hammond, Annie Yim and Marisa Gupta - doctoral students on the Doctor of Musical Arts course joint with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The concert will include piano pieces by Wagner, Liszt and Chopin.
