Who is it for?

The programme is designed for international students who want to apply for an undergraduate course but don’t meet the English language or academic entry requirements.

There are five broad pathways to choose from including Actuarial Science; Business; Computer Science; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Engineering and Mathematics.

Objectives

The International Foundation programme combines intensive English language preparation and academic study, while developing study skills and providing a unique cultural experience.

You’ll receive assured conditional progression to City, University of London upon successful completion of the International Foundation, providing you with a wide range of course options to choose from.

Requirements and how to apply

English requirements

From IELTS 5.0 to IELTS 6.0, depending on course length

  • Four term programme: IELTS 5.0 (with a minimum of 4.5 in writing) or equivalent
  • Three term programme: IELTS 5.5 (with a minimum of 5.0 in writing) or equivalent
  • Two term programme: IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in writing) or equivalent.

Visa requirements

If you are not from the European Economic Area / Switzerland and you are coming to study in the UK, you may need to apply for a visa or entry clearance to come to the UK to study.

The way that you apply may vary depending on the length of your course. There are different rules for:

  • Students on courses of more than six months
  • Students on courses of less than six months
  • Students on a pre-sessional English language course.

Future Finance Loans

Future Finance offers students loans of between £2,500 and £40,000 to help cover tuition fees and living expenses. All students and courses are considered. All loans are subject to credit checks and approval for further details please visit the City Finance website.

Course content and assessment

Teaching and learning

Teaching

The International Foundation programmes are taught by experience and highly qualified teachers who can provide guidance and advice throughout your studies. The ways in which you’ll learn will be flexible, with a mix of lectures, seminars, tutorials, virtual learning facilities and independent study all contributing to your overall study experience.

Assessment

Assessment of the course is both formal and informal. You’ll receive guidance and advice throughout your learning from your teachers.
You will also be assessed through a mix of examinations each semester and coursework, which will include presentations, practical exercises and written assignments. Classes are a mixture of lectures, tutorials and independent study.

Modules

The International Foundation programme will combine academic study in your chosen subject, intensive English language teaching and tasks to help you develop your study skills in preparation for university-level study.
