This two day workshop (4 modules) is the initial entry Makaton training for professionals working with children or adults who use, or would benefit from using, Makaton.
Sally Morgan is Speech & Language Therapist with 19 years experience of working with children and young people with complex learning and health needs. She is Lecturer in Speech & Language Therapy, a Clinical Tutor and is a Makaton Regional Tutor.
The course is aimed at professionals who want to develop Makaton to work with clients. Participants should have an understanding of early communication skills.
Applicants must be proficient in spoken and written English.
What will I learn?
This workshop gives an introduction to Makaton, both signs and symbols. It has theoretical lectures on a variety of topics including Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and the use of Makaton. You will also learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 and Additional stage of the Makaton core vocabulary.
Teaching and Assessment
The two days use both lecture style teaching and practical activities to learn the signs and symbols.
Makaton pocket books of signs, symbols and participant manuals for each module are provided within the course cost.
