Course overview

Risk and risk management are central to contemporary Midwifery Practice. Despite this, midwives get surprisingly little formal training in risk. It is the importance of risk that makes this module so essential for Advanced Midwifery Practice. Drawing from the latest research in the field and taught by world leading risk experts from the City’s Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research, this module offers qualified midwives with the opportunity to build their knowledge and confidence in risk in maternity care. This is the only module of its kind offered in London.

The module will enable students to develop their capacities and skills in:

  • critical analysis of risk
  • the facilitation of key health policy priorities: informed choice and patient safety
  • optimising women’s experience of the maternity services through the implementation of risk research in practice.
