Course Content

This unit is for nurses involved in advising patients on contraceptive methods. Covering: different methods of contraception and their advantages and disadvantages; including the LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraception) method, injections, coils, IUD and IUS systems and the implant Nextplanon.  This course is also a complete update on the combined pill, emergency contraception and pregnancy testing. You will also learn how to confidently advise on contraceptive options in individual clinical cases, how to explain to patients how each contraceptive method should be used, and the ethical and legal aspects of contraceptives and their prescription in various scenarios. This course is very interactive and draws from real-life clinical scenarios from both the delegates and the tutor.

Tutor Info

Valerie is a lecturer in contraception, sexual health and cytology. She joined City University London in 2010 and maintains the skills and knowledge she teaches by continuing to work clinically.
