Clear Writing for Professionals CPD
These days it is almost universally accepted that lawyers and law firms should communicate with their clients in plain language and that letters and legal documents should be drafted in plain language. But old habits can die hard, especially when all those around you are still writing ‘legalese’ and the documents you rely on as precedents are full of it.
This course is designed to set you on the road to writing plain language. It will encourage you to clarify your writing and show you how to break down the acquired habits that get in the way of clarity.
We will invite you to think about the qualities of good writing and appreciate the benefits of plain language. We will introduce the principles of plain language and clear writing, and demonstrate that there is no contradiction between plain language and precision. Above all we will show you that writing in plan language is enjoyable and fun.
The course is practical throughout, involving group discussion, demonstrations and practical exercises.
Please note - This course has been designed to improve legal writing in Plain English. It is also suitable for anyone working within a professional service firm who is looking to improve their formal written communication skills, including those involved in letter writing and drafting proposals.
