  • Dr Carolina Matos, Senior Lecturer in Media and Sociology and Director of the Jeremy Tunstall Global Media Research Centre

Dr Matos has been teaching in the areas of media and democracy, political communications, international relations and the media, political economy of the media and globalization. Her research is situated in the areas of comparative political communications, media and democracy, globalization and development, international communications and journalism. She published the books Media and politics in Latin America: globalization, democracy and identity (I.B. Tauris, 2012) and Journalism and political democracy in Brazil (Lexington Books, 2008) as well as many other articles and chapters as well as journalistic work and is currently working on a third book project, Globalization, gender politics and the media. The book received in 2012 an honorable mention for the Cecil B. Currey Books Awards on the best book on the Third World by the Association of Third World Studies (ATWS) and was translated and published in Portuguese by Editora Civilizacao Brasileira of Record. She also teaches at the International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS). Matos has delivered a series of talks in the UK and throughout the world, including at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford in 2012, and attended the Unesco World Press Freedom conference in Helsinki, participating in the panel on PSBs and the coverage of the refugee crisis.

Petros Iosifidis obtained his first degree in Sociology from Panteion University of Athens and completed his MA in Communication Policy Studies and PhD in Media Policy at City University and University of Westminster respectively. He is currently Professor in Media Policy at City, University of  London. He is author of five books with themes ranging from public service media, to global media policy, to social media and democracy, to television and sport, to media and globalization.He has published extensively in refereed journals such as International Communication Gazette, Media Culture and Society, and European Journal of Communication, and has presented papers in international conferences. He serves as an ESRC Peer Review College reviewer and as a national expert for European projects. Iosifidis is also advisor to the Greek government on media issues. He is Editor of the International Journal of Digital Television and Co-Editor of the Palgrave Global Media Policy and Business Book Series.

Jean’s research focuses on the corporate, technology and policy aspects of international communication. He has notably written books on transnational TV networks and formats. His current work focuses on global value chains in the creative industries.

Marco Bastos is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at City, University of London where he teaches media and communication theory and research methods. Previous to that he held research positions at the University of Sao Paulo, University of California at Davis, and Duke University, where he is an affiliate of the Duke Network Analysis Center. His work addresses sociological aspects of digital media with a substantive interest in the cross-effects between online and offline social networks. His research brings together communication and computational social science and the source code of my projects is available on CRAN and GitHub.
