Title of thesis: Contemplating Genre and Identity in Greek Popular Song: The Theatrical Compositions of Manos Hadjidakis (1944-1966)

Overview and research interests

Christina's current research focuses on the theatrical compositions of the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis and the ways in which the composer contributed to the creation of the 'art-popular' [èntechno laikò] tradition in Greece. She also contemplates the relationship of Hadjidakis with Greek literature modernism of the 1930s.

She is working on both published and unpublished compositions. Hadjidakis' compositions for both contemporary and ancient Greek theatre raise issues of politics, authenticity, musical continuity and national identity.
