PhD Title: Long-range Strategies in Film Scoring: Thematic Distribution Across Narrative Structures

Supervisors: Dr Miguel Mera and Dr Shay Loya

Adopting a wide-angle approach, this thesis looks to map musical information and key events of the narrative discourse along a film’s timeline in order to reveal music’s relationship to the seemingly universal ‘basic plot’ of a film, with the hope of discovering conventions and paradigms of form within narrative film scoring.
