Student insight

"To say that I am happy at City would be an understatement. I had the most positive coming-of-age experience, because the way I think, communicate, write and listen has changed significantly. Not only because of the course content but also the brilliantly teaching. There is a strong sense of community in our department which I never thought would be of such importance to me." Saule Boguzaite

"Studying here has enriched my musical knowledge, whilst allowing me to specialise and develop my interests, under the tuition and supervision of outstanding lecturers. Not only do the lecturers have a wide variety of extensive knowledge from different musical backgrounds, they put aside time to provide student support in tutorials and office hours. Something that appealed to me when applying, was the diversity and number of modules on offer. As a composer, the chance to get your compositions performed and workshopped by visiting professional musicians is a fantastic opportunity.  Additionally, the department offers numerous ensembles, and has recently expanded upon these by introducing the Balkan, Experimental, Fieldrecording and Civitas ensembles. My favourite ensembles have been Balinese and Javanese Gamelan." Hannah Wood

"Studying at City's music department gives me the exceptional opportunity of being able to push myself outside of my comfort zone, with the confidence of being surrounded by people I trust." Leandro Mera Otero

null“My experience as a Music student at City has been a positive one, in every aspect. Not only have I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with talented fellow students from all backgrounds, but I also feel fortunate to be taught by world-class lecturers whose careers in performance, composition and research are powerful sources of inspiration. As a performer and a composer, available and well-equipped facilities are a crucial factor and the practice rooms, the Mac labs and the studios, have been always easy to book and access. This, together with being in the hub of London, creates an environment conducive to learning. I am very excited about going to the United States as an exchange student for the academic year this coming September." Carolina Herrera
