City, University of London delivers two major postgraduate programmes in Greece specifically for working professionals in the maritime and shipping industry, and those who wish to pursue careers in this field. With a long history and prominent position in global maritime and shipping operations, the Greek shipping industry is one of the most respected global shipping centres and commercial hubs in the world.
The LLM in Maritime Law and MSc in Maritime Operations and Management are both delivered in Piraeus, Greece, the heart of the Greek shipping community.
Students have access to the exceptional resources at the library of the Aikaterinis Laskaridis Foundation. The library is home to City, University of London books, only for use by our students. There are also around 10,000 shipping related books in the library’s collection that students can benefit from.
The LLM in Maritime Law in Greece is a Masters programme that enables students to develop a full understanding of maritime law through in-depth scholarship, extensive practitioner contact and real world insights.
It is designed to give students a detailed understanding of maritime law, building upon their existing knowledge and enhancing their career prospects.
The LLM in Maritime Law in Greece is delivered by The City Law School, an institution with a 150 year history of providing legal education that meets the needs of our students and the modern legal profession.
The lectures are delivered by high profile academics who are predominantly from the UK and many of these have significant practical experience of the industry. There are strong links between this course and the shipping industry. In order to gain success in this degree you must achieve a high level of academic attainment but will also gain insight into the operation of the shipping business and international trade.

The MSc in Maritime Operations Management is designed to train professionals for the various sectors and occupations within the maritime and sea transport industries. This course makes use of prestigious visiting speakers and takes advantage of the importance of Piraeus as an international maritime hub, with a focus on maritime operations, management, law and technology and the related business environment. There is also an emphasis on the fields of port security and risk management, marine environmental and offshore studies, marketing and selected aspects of conceptual ship design.
Students develop skills suitable for taking leadership and management responsibility in a wide range of maritime activities on a modular basis at suitably spaced weekends over the period to enable students to carry on
The MSc in Maritime Operations and Management is delivered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, part of the School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering. This multidisciplinary department has made a major impact on engineering and management systems on land, sea, in the air and in outer space.
The course is supported by the Honourable Company of Master Mariners and recognised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology as satisfying the academic requirements to become a Chartered Marine Technologist (C.Mar. Tech). The course also gives exemption from the maximum permissible number of examinations of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and is recognised for continuing professional development by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

This course is designed for existing professionals serving both at sea and onshore, and those looking for a career within the maritime and sea transport industries. If you are within the industry, you are likely to already have a responsible sea-going or middle-management position. Alternatively if you are a new entrant, then you are likely to have attained an undergraduate degree in a related technical or management subject. Exceptionally, those with limited academic background but who have considerable practical experience of the industry may be admitted by personal interview.
