About City

Training Contract Advisory Service (TCAS)

The Training Contracts Advisory Service (TCAS) provides dedicated advice to help you to find a training contract. Our legal experts are trained to guide you through the process of finding employment both within the legal profession and in the public and commercial sectors of the economy. You can start using the service as soon as you accept your place on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at The City Law School.

When you start your LPC you will receive a booklet, which provides you with information to help you develop your CV, covering letters and training contract applications. If you need one-to-one advice, you can make an individual appointment throughout the year with the service. Our TCAS advisors are there to help you prepare for interviews, assessment days or presentations)

TCAS regularly keep LPC students informed about the latest developments in legal recruitment. Our TCAS advisors liaise with law firms on a regular basis and we are constantly on the lookout for any advertised training contract, paralegal or similar vacancies that you might miss during a very busy LPC year.

One-to-One appointments

You can book a 30 minute appointment with a member of the TCAS team to discuss your career. Once you have booked your appointment you need to email your CV and/or application form to your TCAS advisor at least 3 days prior to your appointment. Provision can also be made for you to have mock interviews (at short notice, if necessary) and two members of the TCAS team will act the role of interviewers.

The Team

The TCAS team are Chris Lowney, TCAS Coordinator and a team of advisors from the LPC teaching team. The TCAS team has extensive experience of different types of legal practice and of legal recruitment procedures.

Careers Events

On the first day of the Foundation course there is an introduction to TCAS and Careers guidance at City. Throughout the Foundation Course you will also have one-to-one appointments with your Personal Tutor to discuss your career.

Various careers events take place throughout the year, including the City, University of London Law Fair, Volunteering Fair and the Pro-Bono Fair.

Centre for Career Skills and Development

You can gain wider careers guidance at City, University of London's Centre for Career and Skills Development. The centre offers careers guidance on a one-to-one basis by prior appointment and delivers a series of seminars for law students on CV and cover letter writing, applications and interview skills.
