Student Support

Student-focused academics, extensive student support services and extracurricular activities.

Your Study

We support our students during their time studying at The City Law School and beyond. On coming to the school, you will be assigned a personal tutor who will monitor your progress throughout the course.

Our Course Administrators provide a one-stop-shop for all of your queries about the course or for advice on other issues, like finance and accommodation. Our regular newsletters, 'In Brief' and 'Legal Eye', keep you updated with the latest development in the School and the world of law.

Personal tutoring

When you start your course you will be allocated a Personal Tutor to support your progress throughout your time at The City Law School. Your Personal Tutor will offer support and advice whenever required and monitor your progress on the course.

In addition, they will supervise your professional development to ensure that you can achieve your career goals. Timetabled appointments are arranged at all key stages of your course.

One-to-one support

Our Course Administrators provide you with a one-stop-shop advice service. Whether your query relates directly to your course or for advice on other issues, such as finance, the administrator for your course will be able to answer your query.

Student representation

We believe strongly in working alongside our students and have variety of student support and liaison groups. In addition student representatives sit on course committees, the School Advisory Board, the Board of Studies and other City Committees.

News

We produce regular newsletters to keep our students up-to-date with latest news from the School and the profession. Aspiring solicitors can read Legal Eye and In Brief is for students who want to pursue a career at the Bar.

Language support

City's Centre for Language Studies runs intensive pre-sessional courses in July, August and September at the main University site aimed at people with English as a second language.

The aim of these courses is to enable students to become confident in their written and oral English before starting full time study with us.

Fairness and equality

We believe in the fair and equal treatment of all those who take our courses. The School welcomes students with disabilities or special educational needs.

Prospective students are encouraged to identify such needs in the application process so that their particular requirements can be considered by the Disability and Specific Learning Difficulties Co-ordinator at an early stage.

Any disclosure of disability or special needs will be dealt with in accordance with the confidentiality provisions of the Special Needs and Disability Act 2001.

Your School

From 2020 all City Law School students have been located in a brand new building with facilities designed specifically for law education, also having access to the wider facilities of City, University of London.

Our library gives you unlimited access to the latest law textbooks, journals and directories. In addition, City, University of London's own legal resource portals, Lawbore and Lawbore Professional, contain key resources that are invaluable to your study.

Lawbore

The City Law School has its own legal resource portal, Lawbore This portal gives you quick and easy access to the latest research materials, legislative updates and study news.

The City Law School has its very own legal portal, Lawbore. This offers key resources to support your study including: materials for study, innovative guides and tutorials and lots of ways to keep you up-to-date with what’s going on at City and the legal world beyond.

Lawbore is a great way to find out what it's like to be a law student at City. The portal's key purpose is to help you track down key resources to support you in your study. The Directory offers links for each of the subjects studied to recommended websites, journal articles, reports, cases and key papers.

City Hub is the community part of the site; offering links to the legal databases, details of upcoming law events, the e-library and current awareness news, as well as the Lawbore Twitter feed.

Learnmore is a collection of multimedia law tutorials; containing online resources, video guides and talking slide shows on a range of subjects from mooting, study skills, using a law library, legal writing, doing exams to pro bono.

Many of the resources have been compiled in collaboration with students at City to ensure we have the best guides out there for our students. Lawbore has received various national awards; its creator Emily Allbon (Lecturer) being named Wildy/BIALL Law Librarian of the Year 2012 in her previous career. Her work developing Lawbore also lead to a National Teaching Fellowship and the Routledge/ALT Teaching Law with Technology Prize 2013 (in collaboration with fellow lecturer Sanmeet Kaur Dua).

Mooting is a key activity for many of our students – you can find a new Lawbore Mooting site outlining the competitions we’re involved in, as well as mooting-related news stories.
