The Department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries was formed in summer 2022, bringing together areas of education, research and practice which were previously dispersed across the University. The new department consists of the following subject groupings:
- English, Publishing, Creative Writing
- Culture and Creative Industries
- Library Information Science
- Media and Communications.
This alignment of complimentary areas creates new opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching and research, and will foster a thriving community of staff and students, driven by a passion for the arts and all-things creative.
The Department offers a unique perspective on media, culture and the creative industries, and their place in an ever-changing world.
From critical exploration of twenty-first century English literature, to understanding the role of cultural policy as a force for global economic and social development.
From novel writing and publishing, to considering the shifting nature of political communication and media representation.
From examining the resources and processes of information organisation and storage, to exploring their relevance to contemporary society.
These are all topics covered by our research and teaching.
Our location in central London promises an unparalleled student experience, with world-leading cultural institutions, archives, libraries, literary landmarks, and creative opportunities on our doorstep.
City’s membership of the University of London also provides students and researchers with access to outstanding research resources, such as the renowned Senate House Library.
