Perfectionism in the workplace
Sonja's area of research is Organisational Health Psychology, which applies psychology to the workplace. Within this area, individual differences (such as personality) provide a framework within which to explore how employees vary in their approaches to, and the extent to which they are affected by, workplace stressors.
Perfectionism has consistently been linked with negative health outcomes such as depression, perceived stress and burnout. For the perfectionist, the workplace has been identified as particularly pernicious. Sonja's research focuses on perfectionism in the workplace and also considers differences in how employees detach from work during respite periods. By exploring the mechanisms of perfectionism, Sonja aims to further the understanding of, and add to, existing perfectionism theory.
