Thesis title: The meaning of Euromediterranean intercultural dialogue for Europe: insights and challenges for the analysis of EU foreign policy instruments and objectives

Supervisors: Dr Sara Silvestri and Dr Amnon Aran

Overview and research interests

The main goal of Pietro's research is to evaluate what insights and challenges do the promotion and realisation of intercultural dialogue in the Euromediterranean region bring to the understanding of the definition and implementation of EU foreign policy. In particular, the research focuses on what the empirical analysis of intercultural dialogue can add to the study of the objectives and instruments employed by the EU in its foreign policy, possibly contributing further to the rich debate about the identity/role of the European Union in world politics. As a further contextual goal, the study aims to understand the contributions that its findings can bring to the analysis of a number of "gaps", or tensions, identified in the realisation of EU foreign policy so far.

Pietro holds a B.A. in Political Science, International Relations and Human Rights, a M.A. in Institutions and Policies of Human Rights and Peace and a M.A. in Modern Languages and Sciences of Communication, all from the University of Padua (Italy).
