Sana is an Introduction to Optometry student. She plans to start studying BSc Optometry when she completes the Introduction to Optometry foundation course.
My name is Sana Ahmed, and I am a first-year student at City, University of London studying ‘Introduction to Optometry’.
Before starting university, I was a student at college doing A levels.
My interest in Optometry stemmed originally from the idea that vision defects are not talked about enough.
Therefore, studying a course that led to Optometry meant that I could work in the optical sector and bring more awareness on visual defects and diseases. I chose to study at City because of its location and ranking for student satisfaction.
City is in the heart of London, making it a very desirable place for me to study. Also, City was ranked highly for student satisfaction, which made it a preferable place for me to study.
I have really enjoyed studying the ‘Introduction to Optometry’ course at City because not only has it offered me another pathway to study BSc Optometry, but it has helped me pick up key skills such as, note-taking in lectures and practical skills in labs which are very important at university.
In addition to this, my favorite part about studying at this university is the fact that the university is very diverse.
In my opinion, I believe the teaching and facilities at the university are of a high standard. I feel comfortable asking professors for advice or help on tasks and know where to go for any problems I face at university.
Outside my university studies, I work as an optical assistant in my local practice. This has helped me gain experience, which is beneficial for my course.
My plan after graduating is to go onto my pre-reg year so that I can become a qualified Optometrist.
For anyone looking to study this course, my advice would be to make the right friends, use your time wisely and most importantly, have fun.
Having this mindset will aid you to make the most out of the university experience.
