"Despite coming from very different backgrounds I learnt how to bond and establish a common ground with individuals who came from all over the world."
What was your most significant learning experience of the trip and why?
I think the most significant learning experience was working with individuals from different countries alongside with those from Hanoi, as despite coming from very different backgrounds I learnt how to bond and establish a common ground with individuals who came from all over the world. I got an insight into their lives through the activities we did and really got to understand a differing point of view which I would have never considered before.
Why did you decide to participate in this experience?
My love for travelling was primarily the main reason and it being a fully-funded trip, you really would be a fool not to apply! Also, wanting to build on my confidence was something I always aimed to do. I knew the programme would help me to achieve this, as it entailed me stepping out of my comfort zone, into a completely new environment with people I had never met before.
What surprised you about the experience, or something unexpected that you learned?
I think what surprised me was how much I learn about myself, the kind of person I am, and my personal traits. Sometimes these things are not as obvious as you would think but when meeting so many people and reflecting on myself and how I have presented myself I thought was very interesting. Also, after receiving feedback from my peers during our end of programme graduation I found it very beneficial,
What would you recommend to others looking to take part in a Common Purpose Study Abroad programme?
I would say definitely do it! It is one of the opportunities would will truly look back on and feel so fortunate to have taken up. I would say to go in with an open mind and try and absorb everything because you do not just learn about others and how to adapt to different situation but you more importantly learn about yourself, which you can later build and develop on.
