Lila is a 2nd year Adult Nursing student. Speaking to current students helped her to make her mind as they gave a unique perspective into life at City
What were you doing before you came to study at City, University of London?
I was studying in a local college, I was doing a BTEC L3 in Health and Social Care. I was completing this qualification so I could get into university to study Adult Nursing. I also travelled a lot before I came to study at City, I was able to go to 15 different countries around the world the year before I came to City.
Why did you decide to apply to study at City?
I had attended some of City's events such as Open Days and course taster days. I really liked the feel of the University, they seemed to be really supportive which was very important as I knew that studying at university can be challenging. I also really loved the facilities they had for nurses, it was very modern and looked like it would give me good experience of what it would really be like to work in a hospital.
What were the most important resources for you in helping you to make a decision?
I found that the taster day that I attended when I was in college really helped me. This gave me a good insight into what it would be like to be a nursing student at City. They gave us a small lecture about the type of modules that would be covered for nursing students, we were also given a chance to learn some practical skills they teach to nursing students. This really helped me to see what it would be like to study at City. Speaking to other students also really helped as it gave me a unique perspective into what they found it like to study at city.
What is your favourite thing about studying at City?
My favourite thing about studying at City is all the opportunities, there are many societies, activities, job opportunities and events to go to. This has given me a chance to have a fun and also diverse experience.
What kind of things are you involved in outside your course?
I am very involved with KC Soc (Krishna Consciousness Society), this society gives a chance for all students to think deeper about life, experience new things like mantra meditation, yoga and retreats to a temple, donated by George Harrison, on the outskirts of London. I was put in charge of organising a national retreat for KC Soc where over 100 students from 25 different universities across the country came in November. This was really great opportunity that I received when I joined KC Soc at City, I really enjoyed organising this retreat and it was very successful, so now I am organising another one for February.
What do you plan to do after you graduate?
I am hoping to use my degree to travel to India to practice Nursing in a hospital in Mumbai.
What would be your top tip for our applicants?
Speak to current students and lecturers whenever you can, this will give you a good insight into what life at City will be like. Also attend as many events as possible as this gives you an opportunity to check out the different facilities at the university.
