Hanna is a 3rd year BSc Politics student from Sweden. Her favourite things about City is the multicultural social life and the helpful lecturers.
What were you doing before you came to study at City?
I took a gap year when I finished school and went to Verbier in Switzerland for a ski-season where I worked and skied. When I got back home to Sweden, I decided I wanted to start studying at City, University of London.
Why did you decide to apply to study at City?
I was looking for a high-ranked Politics education in London and got recommended by some friends that City would be a great choice for that.
What is your favourite thing about studying at City?
What I love about City is that you can really see how the professors love their subjects and it makes lectures and tutorials so much more fun and interesting. One of my favourite modules during my course has been Emerging Powers that was taught during my first year. I found the reading extremely interesting because it is so relevant and it is something that you get to read about every day in the news. In the module you analyse how countries from for example BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) challenge the current world order which is super interesting since America and Europe have always been the superiors, but now other countries are catching up.
Another favourite thing about City is that there is a very multicultural social life, which has developed my knowledge for other cultures and religions.
What kind of things are you involved in outside your course?
In April 2018 I published an article in the Undergraduate Journal of Politics, Policy and Society (UJPPS) which was a great achievement for me. I am also part of the Student Ambassador Scheme at City.
What do you plan to do after you graduate?
I would like to work with politics in a more business-orientated company.
What would be your top tip for our applicants?
I believe the most important thing is to choose a course that really interests you. There is going to be a lot of work, but everything will be so much more fun and interesting if you choose something that you enjoy studying.
