Eyal Torn-Hibler chats to us about why he decided to study at City, University of London and his advice to those thinking about studying MSc Data Science.
Why did you choose City?
City is in a great location and has a friendly atmosphere on campus.
There is an abundance of resources to support student in term time as well as developing skills for finding a job and for these reasons I thought City would be a perfect fit for me.
Why did you choose to study MSc Data Science?
There are a few universities which offer Data Science in London however a few of City’s lecturers had research topics which I found to be very interesting, this coupled with the link the department has with the giCentre really attracted me to this course.
There are also many relationships that city has with businesses to give students the chance to undertake an internship as part of their thesis project.
These features make the course very broad and importantly gives the opportunity to develop relationship and a career straight from university.
What has been your favourite module to study?
Deep reinforcement learning, although a very challenging module was extremely interesting and really forced me to improve my general coding ability.
I enjoyed this challenge, and it was very eye-opening to learn about methods which are used in technology around us.
What do you think of the facilities on offer at City?
City has a wide range of activities, workshops and societies for any interest.
Moreover these are constantly changing and improving through requests from students to give them what they really want.
What makes City unique?
A diverse cohort and extremely accomplished lecturer base. I think the standard of teaching at City is very high which is important.
Also having a diverse cohort helps the learning process further, it exposes you to other techniques and schools of thoughts which one might not hear about in a diverse school.
What do you enjoy most about studying in London?
I feel like a bee in a beehive, its exciting and fast-paced!
There’s always something to do and somewhere to go and there’s never a dull moment.
What are your plans for after graduation?
I would like to land a place on a data science graduate scheme and continue to make my own projects.
What would be your tips for those who have applied to City?
Come to an open day and read about the staff in the department you are applying for.
Seeing the campus and knowing your teachers will excite you and help you understand what the course will be like.
