About
Overview
Nouf completed her LLM in Intellectual Property Law from University College London and her LLB in Law from City, University of London. Her research interests lie mainly in Intellectual Property Law. Besides her research, Nouf teaches Intellectual Property Law at the City Law School. She is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, and has an interest in teaching other core LLB modules such as contract and land law.
Nouf's research is interdisciplinary combining Philosophy and Law. It focuses on 'work' (Subject Matter) under UK Copyright Law. As the Copyright, Designs, and Patent Act (1988) is arguably a closed system (meaning only certain works gain copyright protection), Nouf's research will identify whether it is right to have such a closed system. Her research aims to explore whether other creative works can be copyrighted (unusual subject matter such as a taste of food, body art, memes, etc.) and what 'work' means under copyright law. The research is not merely about extending the accepted and clear fundamentals to cover unusual copyrightable works, but to use these unusual works as a basis to identify the core by its very nature: How does copyright law think about subject matter?
Nouf's research is supervised by Dr. Patrick Goold and Dr. Marc Mimler.
