Overview
Tanvir's research focuses on the role of history in International Criminal Court (ICC) cases. Tanvir is a barrister of the Lincoln’s Inn (Call: 2009) and an advocate of the Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Before joining City, he has been practising as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh since 2013 and of the lower courts of Bangladesh since 2010. He has acted as a defence counsel in a number of international crimes cases before the International Crimes Tribunal, Bangladesh (ICT-BD).
Tanvir is the first Bangladeshi listed counsel of the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague having full right of audience with eligibility to represent suspects/accused or victims before the court. He was also a listed counsel of the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (UN-IRMCT) at the Hague. He is a member of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association, Chittagong District Bar Association and Chittagong Income Taxes Bar Association. Tanvir specialises in International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law, Criminal Law and Judicial Review.
Tanvir passed his LLB from the University of London. He holds a PGDL in professional legal skills from the City, University of London. He passed his LLM in Legal Practice with distinction from the Nottingham Trent University. The topic of his dissertation was Universal Jurisdiction and the International Criminal Court. His dissertation in the form of an article has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Rights and Justice of the Nottingham Trent University – a peer reviewed journal.
Tanvir taught University of London’s undergraduate law subjects extensively at different institutions both in the UK and Bangladesh as a guest/adjunct faculty for nearly 10 (ten) years. He is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), UK. At present he is teaching part time on the Bar Practice Course at Senior Lecturer level at the University of Hertfordshire.
Tanvir's PhD is being supervised by Dr Aldo Zammit-Borda and Dr Jessica Corsi.

Summary of research
The objective of my research project is to find out how different stakeholders have engaged with history in cases before the ICC, to investigate their strategic motivations behind using or introducing history and the implications of such use.
