Yermek studied for a master's degree in Culture, Policy and Management at City, University of London, and graduated in 2014.
After his MA, moving back to Kazakhstan, Yermek took a post at the National Gallery of Astana, that was re-opening after the construction of a new building. Yermek has now moved into working for the government. In October 2016 he was appointed Deputy Director of the Department of Arts and Culture of the Ministry of Culture of Kazakhstan. In September 2017 he was then appointed Director of Department of culture, archives and documentation of North Kazakhstan region.
‘Study at City, University of London was a turning point in both my career and my life. My dissertation topic discussed the politics of cultural policy which really prepared me for my working I government. I often remember my time at City and am forever grateful.’
