Tyler Austin won the role of City Law School Representative officer, to promote career success throughout Law students' time at City University.
Why did you choose to study the LLB?
I chose History Politics and Drama at college, so I knew a career working with others and navigating complex problems was one I was seriously going to enjoy. I saw the LLB as a great degree choice, the transferable skill set gained with a law degree are second to none.
Why did you choose The City Law School?
Growing up in East London and then out into Norwich, I found that a centrally based University was the best for me. City Law School has a great collaborative ethos, with lecturers constantly pushing you to be better for the sake of yourself. They really see you grow as an independent student.
What makes City Unique?
City being so centralised has given the ability to scout out top law firms, throw myself into the nightlife and make a diverse and inclusive group of friends and colleagues and explore central London while maintaining my education.
Did you take part of any extracurricular activities?
I joined the Drama Society here at City, and am currently the Vice president of it, its a talented group of young people with some great actors and directors- I would highly recommend joining to any first year who wants to make fast friends. I also ran for and won City Law School Representative officer, to promote our career success throughout Law students time here at the University.
How has studying the LLB helped you take the next steps in your career?
The LLB has provided clarity in approaching law firms, general etiquette in email, in person etc. The first year is really about understanding the sector as a whole and preparing you for the reality of the legal world. It's intense, but worthwhile.
What do you enjoy most about studying in London.
Everyone you meet is usually only a few Tube stops away! Being able to meet with friends and colleague and network events without having to drive far, and you can always hop on a wider service train and check out the rest of the UK.
What advice or tips would you give future LLB students?
Be prepared to be surprised about this career. It's a very independently driven course, and you will need to take your own steps sometimes. You'll have a safety net in the classroom, so use it.
