Federico studied for a degree in Economics with Accounting at City, University of London, and graduated in 2013.
Why did you choose to study at City, University of London?
I chose City because I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the financial services industry, and as such, there was no better place than a university focused on the professions, in particular finance, right in the heart of the City, with extremely appealing career prospects and postgraduate opportunities as well. Moreover, City offered one of the largest selection of courses to tailor my studies, and so was the perfect match to my needs.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
The BSc in Economics and Accountancy was exactly what I needed; a challenging course run jointly by School of Arts and Social Science and Bayes Business School, which covered several topics ranging from accounting to econometrics and law, so as to give me the opportunity to figure out exactly what I wanted to do within the financial services industry, while equipping me with a solid knowledge and several tools to succeed in any career direction.
What was your favourite module and why?
Ex-post, I must say that Econometrics (which was covered in two different modules) has been the most useful and interesting topic I have taken at City. First of all, the professors had been extremely good in teaching this challenging subject, and second I use it now on a daily basis and it's extremely interesting, so I am glad these two modules have been so useful for my career so far.
What was the highlight of your time at City?
Despite all the evenings and weekends spent in the 24h lab, my experience at City has been great; I got to learn many interesting things about living in the UK, and in London, met new friends from all over the world, and learnt from some of the best professors around. And most importantly, City enabled me to make up my mind and make an informed decision about my career, by helping me securing internships and jobs and by providing me the tools needed to succeed in those, and I will always be grateful for that.
What have you done after graduating from City?
After graduation, I joined an Hedge fund in London for a summer internship, and later continued my studies in Madrid at IE Business School, where I undertook a MSc in Finance, which I tailored to my interest in asset management and buy-side in general. I am now working at ING Investment Management in the Netherlands as research analyst.
