About
Overview
Sally is a Speech and Language Therapist with expertise of working with children and young people with complex special educational and healthcare needs. She joined the School of Health Sciences in 2014 as a Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy was promoted to Senior Lecturer in August 2019. She completed her PGCert in Academic Practice in 2015 and became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in August 2021.
Sally worked within the NHS as a Speech and Language Therapist in London for 19 years before moving to her City role. She specialises in working with children with complex needs across the age range. Her work has included support regarding eating and drinking difficulties (dysphagia), alternative and augmentative communication (AAC), Autism and a range of neurodevelopmental disabilities. She is a registered Makaton regional tutor.
Sally was a committee member of the UK Swallowing Research Group (UKSRG) for six years until February 2020. She is a Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT) Research Champion and a working party member of the Research Support Network, @ReSNetSLT and the RCSLT representative on the Exec Commitee of the British Academy of Childhood Disability (BACD).
Sally is a member of the RCSLT's disabled workforce working group and co-rep for her Division on the School of Health Sciences' Equality Diversity & Inclusion Commitee.
Sally offers Makaton training through City Health courses, a signing and symbol system for people with communication difficulties.
