About

Overview

Rosamund has a background in health visiting and primary health care development. She joined City University London in 2000 and is Professor of Community and Primary Care Nursing. Prior to coming to City she held the Chair in Community Healthcare Nursing Practice at the University of Hull and was professional lead for health visiting in Hull and Holderness Community Health NHS Trust.

Rosamund undertook her first degree at the University of Manchester graduating with a BNurs degree and professional qualifications in nursing, health visiting and district nursing. Having gained professional experience she then developed her research skills in a research post at Queen Charlotte's Maternity Hospital undertaking a study aimed at individualising care. This work led to her MPhil and the publication of “Theory for Midwifery Practice”; in 1995, the second edition of which was published in 2011.

Following a return to the University of Manchester she spent 10 years in Wales at the University of Swansea and then at the University of Wales College of Medicine. In Swansea she held a joint appointment in health visiting and led CPD provision for community nurses/health visitors. She then moved to Cardiff to the Welsh Office funded development project Teamcare Valleys which worked with the 156 practices in the South Wales Valleys to improve primary care provision. At the end of this project she returned to Swansea and then moved to the University of Hull. In Hull she held her second joint appointment, established the Centre for Community Nursing, was professional lead for health visiting and practised as a health visitor.

Since 1995 she has been the Co-Chair of International Collaboration for Community Health Nursing Research, a charity promoting research dissemination of research relevant to community nursing. In 1997 she was one of two founding editors of Primary Health Care Research and Development. In 2012 she became a founding Director and Trustee of the Institute of Health Visiting. She was appointed as a Trustee of THE Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships in 2012.

Her main areas of interest are health visiting, public health, service and organisational development and she has a continuing interest in the development and application of theory to midwifery and public health nursing practice.

Thesis title: Primary care consultations between nurse practitioners and patients in a Walk in Centre: The use of video as an interpretative tool.

Further information: The study interpreted 20 videos of primary care WiC consultations between nurse practitioners and patients aged 18-65 years. It used a novel qualitative method of social action to interpret the videos. The empirical outcomes identified that the majority of videos shared verbal and non-verbal conversations about information rather than emotion or action and the harmonious nature of the interaction included facilitative nurses and actively involved patients.

Further information: The purpose of the research is to explore the consultant therapy radiographer role using a case study approach, from the views, opinions and perspectives of the consultant therapy radiographers themselves and in addition the medical practitioners (consultant clinical oncologists and specialist oncology registrars) and RT nurses. The research should acknowledge whether the medical and healthcare practitioners, who work closely with the consultants, deem that such a role is pivotal, beneficial to radiotherapy patients and be of value for radiotherapy service providers who are considering developing & implementing such a role.
