About
Overview
Dr Nicolau Iralal Morar joined City from Cranfield University, where he was Research Fellow in High Temperature Materials Performance and Manufacturing. Dr Morar holds a PhD in Production Engineering from Cranfield University (UK) and BEng and MEng degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the Kingston University London (UK).
He started his career as an engineer intern at GE Aviation Wales (UK); then joined Cranfield for PhD research in EPSRC Through-life Engineering Services (TES) Centre with Rolls-Royce. Prior to his present appointment as a Lecturer in Manufacturing and Materials (Education) he worked on the optimisation of advanced manufacturing technologies, surface integrity and performance of nickel superalloys, laboratory environmental testing, analytical microscopy and predictive modelling research. During his time at Cranfield he has participated in EPSRC and ATI-Innovate UK funded projects including EPSRC Through-life Engineering Services (TES) and Rolls-Royce "MALIT". Dr Morar was also involved in materials research programmes for turbines directly funded by industry including Rolls-Royce plc, MTU aeroengine (in Germany), ITP Aero (in Spain), and Siemens Industrial Gas Turbines (in UK).
His main research interests are in Engineering Education, Industry 4.0 and Automation, Learning Factories, Sustainable Engineering Design and Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, High Temperature Materials Degradation, and Surface Enhancement Technologies.
Dr Morar is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Chartered Engineering (CEng, IOM3), and Member of European Society of Engineering Education since 2022.
