About
Overview
Dr. Marie C. Hill is a Senior Lecturer in Practice Nursing in the School of Health Sciences having completed her BSc (Hons) Nursing and Master’s in Health Management in Kings College London and City University London respectively. Marie qualified as a Registered General Nurse in the United Kingdom, after which she worked in a variety of health care settings, namely in her native Republic of Ireland as well as in the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Norway.
Marie has extensive experience in the field of practice nursing ranging from clinical to managerial roles. She led a multidisciplinary team, including academics from the Medical Academy of Postgraduate Studies (MAPS) St. Petersburg to develop a master's module for Practice Nurses in Russia. The module Promoting Concordance in Chronic Disease Management was delivered in June, 2008 at MAPS, St. Petersburg. Following on from this, she was team leader in a research workshop for Practice Nurses in Zagreb, Croatia in 2009.
Marie's role as a Senior Lecturer in practice nursing enables her to develop curricula tailored to meet the changing needs of today's practice nurse. One of these curricula developments is the BSc (Hons) Primary Care (Practice Nursing) degree. This degree was validated in 2009 and has been independently researched and positively evaluated as meeting the educational needs of Practice Nurses (Blunt and Griffin, 2013; Griffin, Blunt and Souster, 2011).
There are now four academic qualifications that practice nurses can obtain at City, University of London:
BSc/Graduate Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma/Masters in Primary Care (Practice Nursing). All programmes are available on either a full or part time basis.

Research
Research Overview
Marie's current research uses qualitative methodology to explore Practice Nurse influence on the uptake of the MMR vaccine. A modified grounded theory design (Strauss and Corbin, 1998) will be used to analyse and seek in depth understanding of the views of parents, health visitors, general practitioners and practice nurses to address her research question.
