Madeline is a mental health nurse and health psychologist who joined City University London in 1999. She specialises in psychosocial interventions for psychosis and the role of emotion in learning and teaching. She previously worked as a Research Cognitive Therapist at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London.
Madeline initially worked as a mental health nurse with additional training in cognitive therapy at the Institute of Psychiatry. This led to a post as a Research Cognitive Therapist on a national randomised controlled trial that contributed to the evidence base for cognitive behavioural therapy for people with schizophrenia. She then moved to City University London as Course Director for the interprofessional Diploma in Psychosocial Interventions (Thorn Initiative).
Recently she has led on the development of innovative groups to support mental health nursing students to learn about the emotional impact of practice. She is interested in applying systems-centered theory and interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) to understand how groupwork affects student development.
