About
Overview
Dr Ladan Hashemi is a Senior Research Fellow in Health Sciences in the Violence and Society Centre, School of Policy & Global Affairs, where she leads the global thread and coordinates the lifecourse working group for the UKPRP-funded consortium on Violence, Health and Society (VISION).
Her research is interdisciplinary, drawing on her expertise in the application of advanced quantitative research methods in both social science and epidemiology, with an emphasis on the intersection of gender, domestic violence, and its harms to health and society.
She has a honorary potion at the University of Auckland, New Zealand where she worked as a Senior Research Fellow, the lead investigator of an Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study, and previously as the lead analyst of the 2019 New Zealand Family Violence Study (2017-2023).
Her recent work in New Zealand has delved into various facets of interpersonal violence, including gender patterns in prevalence, intergenerational impacts, population trends in intimate partner violence, sexual abuse, and ACEs, resiliency amidst trauma, and the ramifications of Adverse and Positive Childhood Experiences on health.
Over the years, Ladan has developed her research portfolio of highly impactful and policy-relevant work, and proven her ability to generate research funding and lead on collaborative research projects. Presently, she is actively engaged in partnerships with domestic violence service providers in Iran (her home country) and the UK, generating crucial data to inform policy-making and public discourse.
She has received funding from the UK Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (International Science Partnerships Fund) to establish an evidence-based platform for gender-based violence prevention in Iran. Additionally, she has recently received Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) to launch an animated social media campaign aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence in Iran.
