Overview
Julie is a registered mental health nurse. Julie joined City, University of London in 1997 and she previously worked in community mental health services specializing in substance use problems and homelessness.
She has undertaken research about the relationship between homelessness and mental illness, student preferences in assessment, the use of audio feedback for formative assessment, health students' use of mobile devices, professional identity in nursing, and liminality. A Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Julie leads on strategic projects relating to pedagogy and pedagogic research. Her doctorate entitled "Nursing on the edge. Nursing identity in liminal spaces" explored the liminal position of nursing in healthcare, society and the academy.
Julie is a governor at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and sits on the Public Engagement Committee for the Trust.
She is Associate Professor and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies in the School Health and Psychological Sciences, working with a number of health services providers across London and the South East.
