About
Overview
Jill is Emeritus Professor in the School of Health Sciences at City. Her primary research interest is the application of methods and models of behaviour change to implementation research, to accelerate the uptake of evidence-based healthcare practice, thereby improving health outcomes. This often involves applying and developing complex intervention methodology in the context of exploratory studies or randomised trials of healthcare interventions. Jill has served on grant awarding panels for National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), as an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Health Psychology and as a behaviour change expert on the Implementation Strategy working group of the National Institute of Health and Care excellence (NICE).

Research Overview
Jill applies and develops theories and methods in a range of clinical areas, including management of diabetes, blood transfusion practice and vision health services.
Research areas:
- Translating evidence into practice, in particular, using theories, evidence and methods for changing the clinical behaviours of healthcare professionals. This is known in the UK as Implementation research and in Canada as Knowledge Translation research.
- Applying and developing complex intervention methodology in the context of randomised trials (including problem analysis, intervention design, intervention fidelity and feasibility, process evaluation).
- Using applied research, in a range of settings, to develop and extend theories and methods and to test their generalisability.
