About

Overview

Prof Jason Chuah FRSA is Associate Dean and, formerly, Head of Department. He has held scholarships from Barclays Bank and the UK Overseas Development Authority at St Johns College, Cambridge University. He was the holder of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Award and the Cambridge Commonwealth Fellowship and also has a Certificate in Export with Distinction from the Institute of Export, winning the Clive Schmitthoff Commercial Law prize and the Sweet & Maxwell book prize.

Jason is Executive Director of the London Universities Maritime Law and Policy Group and has been nominated three times for the Oxford University Press Award for Best Law Teacher of the Year.

He is a peer review of the Arts and Humanities Research Council and has been involved in various consultations with the Ministry of Justice, the OECD, the ICC, the Association of British Insurers, the UNCITRAL, etc. He also serves as a member of the Consultative Group on Sustainable Shipping for the UN Global Compact and has contributed to the highly influential ICC-ECCO International Good Practice Guide for Offsets.

His works have been cited by the CJEU, EU Institutions, courts and tribunals in the US, UK and Asia. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Prof Chuah has worked on several externally funded projects:

• Research project on the criminalisation of seafarers (Seafarers Research Institute and the International Transport Federation) (May 2011 -2012)
• Research project on Guided Independent Studies for postgraduate students (University of Westminster Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund) (2009-2010)
• Project on Choice of Forum and Law Clauses in Franchise Agreements for the British Association of Franchisees (1999-2001)
• Part of the team that put together the University of Luton's application for Pre-Joint European Project (Curriculum Transfer in areas of EC and international trade law to Ushgorod University, the Ukraine) (1996)
• Assistant Collaborator, initial EUMEDNET Project on SMEs and Electronic Commerce co-ordinated by Universidad de Malaga (1995-96)
• Research Assistant, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) research on the pollution of the Malaysia-Singapore Strait (the Tebrau Strait) (1989)
