Family carers for profound ID project
2021-2023: UKRI funding (£275000). Linden, M. (PI), Forbes, T., McCann, E., Brown, M., Marsh, L., Traynor, M., Todd, S., Hughes, N.
Aim: This work will explore the experiences of family carers of people with PMLD during the pandemic and co-design an intervention to support their future wellbeing.
Objectives:
•To explore the experiences of family carers of people with PMLD and voluntary sector organisations during the pandemic and suggest possible mechanisms of future support.
•To establish a co-design group of stakeholders with experience of PMLD during the pandemic.
•To develop a support programme with the help of our co-design group.
•To test the acceptability of the programme among family carers.
•To implement the programme for use across the UK and Ireland.
RSE and youths with intellectual difficulties
2021-2022: Burdett Trust finding (£100,000) Brown, M., McCann, E., Marsh., L, Linden, M., McCormick, F., Traynor, M.
Aim: To develop Best Practice Guidelines for learning disability nurses and other nurses on relationships and sexual education (RSE) for children and young people with learning disability (CYPLD) in special schools. Methods: A mixed-methods studying involving quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis.
Expected outcomes: The identification of the contributions of learning disability and other nurses in the provision or RSE programmes in four exemplar schools in Northern Ireland and Scotland and the development of a Best Practice Guide to inform RSE delivery in a special school setting. The project team consists of researchers and academics from Queen's University Belfast, The University of Glasgow and City, University of London.
