About
Overview
Caroline is a registered mental health nurse and an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies. She previously worked as a community mental health nurse based in the Docklands area in Tower Hamlets. She joined City University in 1996 as a Community Mental Health Specialist Lecturer; her teaching covers a wide spectrum of Community Nursing Practice in Mental Health across the pre-registration programme. She is also involved as a module lead for an optional module of the BSc Mental Health Nursing programme, and co-module leader for a simulated practice module. Caroline is interested in exploiting education technology to promote blended learning through the virtual learning environment of Moodle 2.
Caroline initially trained as a Psychiatric nurse and qualified in 1980 in her native Hong Kong, before moving to the United Kingdom to further her career in Nursing. After she gained her Nursing registration with the UKCC (now renamed as NMC), she completed a post-registration course in The Care of the Mentally ill in the Community at the Polytechnic of East London (now known as University of East London) and worked as a Community Psychiatric Nurse in East London. More recently, she has gained qualifications in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and Clinical Supervision. She is now accredited as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
Caroline is a co-founder of the Chinese Mental Health Association, set up in 1992, and she has been involved in bidding for some substantial mental health projects in the past to improve the mental health of the Chinese people in the UK.
Caroline is also an Honorary Mental Health Consultant to the National Chinese Healthy Living Centre based in London since 2008. Her key role is to support the Director at the Centre on strategic service development of mental health services; this could include the bidding of funding for projects and participation in steering groups and evaluations. On an operational level, Caroline has also been involved in assessing clients using her native language and making recommendations to the main stream services about specific mental health needs for particular clients.
Caroline's main area of teaching has been concerned with developing mental health nursing practice and acquisition of nursing skills through simulated practice. She is also the module leader for 'Fundamentals in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy', an optional module within the 2012 Nursing Curriculum programme.
