About City

Education for Sustainable Development

City's Strategy recognises that to achieve its Vision, it must deliver academic excellence and student satisfaction whilst maintaining financial and environmental sustainability. City's developing Sustainability Strategy aims to support this Vision by providing an education-centred approach to meeting its sustainability objectives.

Education for Sustainable Development ("ESD") involves the recognition and infusing of sustainability, through formal and informal means, in learning, teaching, curriculum design, research and student-led activities.

Using this approach, City's ESD initiatives will:

  • Take account of disciplinary differences
  • Illustrate different mechanisms for its promotion and application
  • Focus on areas such as:
    - The formal curriculum
    - Informal learning and curricula
    - Research
    - Campus sustainability
    - Community engagement
  • Enhance the students' experience at City.

The Sustainability Committee will be responsible for overseeing the Sustainability Strategy and this ESD work.

City students also work with the Sustainability Team to complete coursework. Previous projects have involved completing energy audits at City buildings and reviewing various energy management systems in place at City and the City of London Corporation.
