El SistemaEl Sistema

This moving documentary about Venezuela's unique system of music education takes us from the barrios of Caracas to the world’s finest concert halls. It shows how Venezuelan visionary José Antonio Abreu has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of children over the past three decades.

Children from streets dominated by the gun battles and gang warfare are taken into music schools, given access to music and taught through the model of the symphony orchestra how to build a better society.

In Harmony Lambeth is a groundbreaking community programme aimed at using music to transform the lives of young children. The scheme was inspired by the El Sistema scheme, which for 30 years has enabled more than 250,000 children from poor neighbourhoods to learn music, acquiring confidence and other key life skills in the process.
